Culturally-responsive, project-based math educator based in NYC

Hi, I’m Joey. I’m a math educator focused on culturally-responsive teaching and building cross-curricular connections through student-driven projects. My research interests center around the labor movement within the field of education.

I am a math teacher at a public high school in NYC. In 2022, I received a Master’s in Curriculum Design and Instructional Technology at SUNY Albany. I graduated from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 2013 having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education.

I have nine years of teaching experience through all levels of high school math in large public and charter high schools in Louisville, Detroit, and NYC as well as in a private Waldorf school system in Ann Arbor.
